A new piece of my mixed media art entitled “Losing the Path”. It’s inspiration came from the reading of What the Psychic Told the Pilgrim: A Mid-Life Misadventure on Spain’s Camino de Santiago de Compostela by Canadian author, Jane Christmas’ (2007).
The piece is a mixed media machine stitching on a recycled atlas page of Europe with ripped up book pages, puzzle pieces, hand dyed cheesecloth, old wedding veil and a sea shell. The book page quotes from a mid century Dick and Jane reader are: “I do not know the way home” and “This detour won’t take us to the place I was talking about”. The map shows the northern part of Spain through which the Camino de Santiago winds. Pilgrims for centuries have walked this 800 kilometer pilmgrimage. They wear a scallop shell to mark themselves as pilgrims.
