March 23, Machine-Stitched Rag Basket Class

Image 4Come join award-winning basketmaker, Ev Ward de Roo, as you learn the basics of machine stitched rag baskets or sewn pottery. Learn how to ‘build’ a vessel on your sewing machine with a fabric wrapped, coiling technique. Everything you need to know in order to finish a small coiled basket will be covered in this fun, 3 hour class. Once you have mastered the method you will be able to apply it to all sorts of your own designs.
Supplies needed:
.2 – .3 metres cotton or poly-cotton quilting fabrics (may be scraps at least minimum .5 metre long x 2.5mm wide)
Thread – regular weight, matching or contrasting colour
13 metres, 1/4″ (.5mm) upholstery piping, welting or cotton clothesline (purchase at Stitcharie)
Scissors
Rotary cutter (not required)
Cutting ruler & mat (not required)
Requirements:
Basic sewing skills
Sewing machine – with three step zig-zag capability
Jeans needle
